Welcome to Year 1

 General information:

Our teachers are Mrs Wainwright on Monday, Tuesday and Mrs Sagaas Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Botterill, Mrs Clinton and Mrs Miller.

PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure all items in the PE bag is named and that the children have a pair of trainers with them as we will go outside for PE during the summer term.

Our library day is Wednesday. The children need to bring their book back to school so that they can pick a new one.


Forest School

We go outside for Forest School every Thursday. Please remember to bring wellies to school in a named bag.


Please ensure your child brings a bottle of water to school every day. We encourage them to have a drink of water after each playtime as well as at the end of a lesson.

Topic:Hooray for the Holiday!

Maths This week we will be working on identifying British coins and amounts.

‘Pay for it’ is a great game to practise money at home. It has 5 different levels to suit the children’s different abilities. You’ll find it at


English: We have learned a non-fiction text about the shark. This week we will be using the structure of the text to make our own report about an animal the children know well.


Spellings: Adding -s and -es to words. Can you remember the rule?


Topic: This week we will identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles,

birds and mammals. On Wednesday we will have a Design and Technology day where we will transform our shoe boxes into moving pictures.


Tuesday 10th July Transition afternoon. The children will be getting to know Mrs Coleman and spend time in the year 2 classroom.

Year 1 Term 1B Overview

Phonics Play  This is a subscription website, but you can access some of the games for free. You can target one sound or a mix from the Reception and Year 1 sounds.

Hit the Button This game is excellent for practicing those all important number skills such as number bonds, doubles or halves. Plenty of opportunities for challenges too.

Math Playground

ICT Games Lots of fun games, that cover lots of curriculum areas

Topmarks  A super website containing lots of games to support all areas of Maths and English, including phonics and spelling.

Alien Pairs to 10. Another fun game to check if you know your number bonds to 10.
